The hall and slewing crane systems produced by the family-owned company ABUS represent a true European success story. With mobile data collection, this mid-sized manufacturer is optimizing its intralogistics and production processes at its Gummersbach site.
The Picking Solution as the Core of the Mobile Application
Employees receive their picking orders directly from the Ontego control center. The web-based application enables dispatchers to distribute orders efficiently, resulting in a significant increase in efficiency throughout the internal production workflow. The data foundation for both the mobile devices and the control center application is provided by the Ontego server. The leading ERP system, proALPHA, was integrated via a web service interface.
The key facts of the mobile application at ABUS are therefore:
- Modern web service interface to the ERP
- 6 devices for the picking solution
- Control center application for order dispatching
Mobile Data Collection as flexible as ABUS’s product portfolio
Thanks to existing templates, the effort required for the actual mobile solution was kept manageable. The main focus was placed on the new web service interface to proALPHA and on the control center for picking coordination.
The ROI of the entire project was achieved after just 7 months—an impressive result made possible by significant improvements in workload distribution and fast, error-free data feedback to the leading ERP system. Flexible and robust at the same time, Ontego Mobility at ABUS demonstrates its adaptable nature without losing sight of cost efficiency.
